The Danone International Prize for Nutrition
The Danone International Prize for Nutrition (DIPN) was created in 1997 and awarded every 2 years until 2016, with the support of the French Fondation Recherche Médicale.
The Danone International Prize for Nutrition was build to recognize researchers leading a major advancement in nutrition science, including new concepts and research fields with potential application for human diet and health.
The laureates the Danone International Prize for Nutrition
The selection procedure of the DIPN is modelled on the most renowned international prizes. It comprises a confidential nomination process and a final selection by an independent Jury. A Prize Committee was responsible for all scientific aspects of the Prize and ensured the proper conduct of this selection procedure.
Since 1997, 10 researchers have been awarded the Danone International Prize for Nutrition for their work and achievements in the field of Human Nutrition and Health:
- Pr. Philip CALDER, awarded in 2016, for his outstanding work on nutrition and immunity.
- Pr. Gokhan HOTAMISLIGIL, awarded in 2013/2014, for his major insights regarding metabolism and immunity.
- Pr. Jeffrey GORDON, awarded in 2011, for the metagenomic approach and the complex interrelationships between diets and the structure and functions of the gut microbial communities.
- Pr. Johan AUWERX, awarded in 2009, for his research on the direct influence of the nutrients on transcription
- Pr. Jeffrey FRIEDMAN, awarded in 2007, for the discovery of Leptin
- Pr. David BARKER, awarded in 2005, for the Barker Early Origins Hypothesis, also known as the fetal origins hypothesis or the thrifty phenotype hypothesis
- Pr. Ricardo BRESSANI, awarded in 2003, for his life-time commitment to maximise the understanding of the nutritional potential and limitations of local basic foods
- Pr. Alfred SOMMER, awarded in 2001, for his work on Vitamin A deficiency
- Pr. Leif HALLBERG, awarded in 1999, for his work on iron metabolism
- Pr. Vernon YOUNG, awarded in 1997, for his work on protein and amino acids metabolism
