Este libro, primero de la serie de publicaciones del Instituto Danone del Cono Sur, contó con la participación del Prof. David Barker, pionero mundial en la temática y distinguido con el Premio Internacional de Nutrición Danone en el año 2005. En él, un grupo de expertos discute sobre la nueva visión de los eventos tempranos en el ciclo biológico y su trascendencia para la salud adulta a lo largo del curso vital; de ese modo, busca contribuir a que médicos, enfermeras, nutricionistas, científicos, educadores y responsables de políticas públicas, se concentren en acciones efectivas durante los primeros años de la vida, no sólo para lograr un mejor crecimiento y desarrollo infantil, sino además para disminuir el riesgo de enfermedades crónicas relacionadas con la nutrición (cardiovasculares, cáncer, obesidad, diabetes y osteoporosis), principales causas de muerte y discapacidad en el Cono Sur.

Here, a group of experts discusses the new vision of the early events in the biological cycle and their consequence for adult health along the vital course; this is how it seeks to help physicians, nurses, dietitians, scientists, educators and public policy makers focus on effective actions targeting the first years of life to achieve not only a better growth and development in children, but also to reduce the risk of nutrition-related chronic diseases (cardiovascular, cancer, obesity, diabetes and osteoporosis) -the main causes of death and disability in the Southern Cone.
