DANONE INSTITUTE
INTERNATIONAL PRIZE:

a Danone Institute and FRM collaboration

A RENEWED DANONE INSTITUTE
INTERNATIONAL PRIZE

In 2026, Danone Institute has established a renewed Prize, the Danone Institute International Prize (DIIP). The DIIP seeks to foster research exploring how nutrition, food-related mechanisms and other interconnected biological pathways can contribute to healthier aging trajectories across the lifespan.

The Prize recognizes an outstanding mid-career researcher for both his/her actual scientific contributions and his/her potential to further develop innovative and transforming research at the intersection of biology, nutrition and healthy aging.

A LONG-TERM COMMITMENT

For nearly 80 years, the Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale (FRM) has been one of France’s leading independent organizations supporting medical research across all major areas of health. Entirely funded by private donations and philanthropic support, the FRM helps advance scientific breakthroughs and improve patients’ lives.

Building on 30 years of collaboration, the Danone Institute International Prize is jointly organized by the Danone Institute and the French Foundation for Medical Research (Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale -FRM).

The Danone Institute’s Awards program started in 1996, initially to recognize the outstanding careers of researchers working on innovative concepts in nutrition.

In 2018, the award evolved to focus on talented mid-career researchers and the broader theme of food (beyond nutrition in the strict sense), and was awarded every two years.

Today, with the Danone Institute’s repositioning on the role of nutrition in preventively supporting health span, the award is embarking on a third evolution while maintaining its focus on talented mid-career researchers. It will be awarded annually.

The Prize is based on a dual model both for mid-career recognition (Award) and research support (Grant).

  • Award: 20.000 EUR awarded to the Laureate
  • Grant: 100.000 EUR awarded to the Institution to support the Laureate’s research work

The Laureate is selected among outstanding nominees by an independent jury of internationally recognized experts, based on peer recognition and scientific excellence.

INDEPENDENT SELECTION: THE JURY

The Danone Institute International Prize Jury was first established in 2026. The jury consists of seven members, all of whom are internationally recognized for their scientific contributions to the field of aging. Coming from different disciplines and various regions of the world, they bring a global perspective to the selection process.

As president of the Global Scientific Board of Danone Institute,
Prof. Umberto Simeoni has been nominated chair of the Jury.

As part of its mission, the Jury proceeds to a confidential nomination of candidates,
evaluation and deliberation process to select a laureate.
