Type of offer: Scholarship

Conditions for application: The candidate must be less than 35 years old, enrolled in a doctoral program in an University institution in the French-speaking Community or in the Flemish-speaking Community, holder of a degree of doctor of medicine, pharmacologist, chemical and agricultural engineer, bio engineer or graduate in nutrition, physical education and physiotherapy, psychology or by holders of an equivalent recognized degree obtained in a country of the European Union. Degree must be obtained with a minimum grade of "distinction".

Selection criteria: Scientific quality of the project, compliance with the regulations.

Distinguished Nutrition Leadership Award

Description: Nominees have to be Canadian or landed immigrants working in Canada for the Canadian population. Eligible awardees can either be individuals or association in the field of nutrition.
This award is intended to reflect a career devoted to improving nutrition behavior through the advancement and application of knowledge, novel treatment and prevention strategies or development of nutrition communication aimed at increasing public and professional awareness of the effect of nutrition on health.



Conditions for application: The Danone Institute is offering an annual award to recognize the contribution of an individual or an association to the field of nutrition within Canada. This award is intended to reflect a career devoted to improving nutrition behaviour through the advancement and application of knowledge, novel treatment and prevention strategies or development of nutrition communication aimed at increasing public and professional awareness of the effect of nutrition on health.
Nominations should be made in the form of a letter accompanied by an updated and shortened curriculum vitae of the nominee. Self-nomination and peer-nomination are acceptable. Nominees do not necessarily need to be informed of their nomination. A total of two letters of support should accompany the nomination.


Selection criteria: Criteria for eligibility for this award include demonstration of innovation, commitment, leadership and long lasting impact on nutrition behaviour. Canadians and landed immigrants are eligible for nomination to receive the award for their work conducted in Canada.

Target of the program: Research focussed on or leading to improved nutrition behavior during pregnancy, infancy, childhood and adolescence. Projects involving evaluation of nutrition education strategies and communication practices and of innovative models will be considered for support. Human projects only will be considered. Recipients must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.
Conditions for application: Research must be conducted in Canadian post-secondary institutions with instititutional ethical approval must be obtained before funds are released.

Selection criteria: Originality, Scientific Merit, feasibility, and relevance to the mission and mandate of the institute. Submission of applications of a multidisciplinary and networking nature are encouraged. Human projects only will be considered. Projects involving evaluation of nutrition education strategies and communication practices and of innovative models will be considered for support. .

Type of offer: Award

Description: Conceived to reward excellence, this Prize is given in the spirit of very distinguished prizes and recognizes individuals or teams that have developed novel concepts and advanced the frontiers of nutrition in either basic or applied research.

Laureates are chosen after an independent, international and consultative selection procedure that guarantees transparency and objectivity.

Laureates are awarded 120,000 Euro in recognition of research studies already published as well as to support future research.


Conditions for application: Individuals and teams, to be represented by an individual, must conduct ongoing and active research, be expected to continue a career of active nutrition research and be a leader of their
field of activity. Their primary employer must be a not-for profit institution at the time of the award. Their work must be published in the public domain.

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Interdisciplinary Nutrition Sciences
Type of offer: Fellowship

Description: The Dannon Institute's Postdoctoral Fellowship in Interdisciplinary Nutrition Science was created as a direct response to recommendations published by the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine (1994) to broaden the scientific interchange between nutrition departments and other basic sciences. The award permitted two exceptionally skilled postdoctoral graduates to conduct nutrition research in a laboratory representing a different discipline from his or her formal training.

Target of the program: Nutritionists and researchers recently awarded their doctoral degree
Conditions for application: - All requirements met and doctoral degree awarded within the past year
- Minimum of one article published in a peer reviewed journal (as first or second author)
- U.S. citizen, U.S. non-citizen national or permanent U.S. resident
Selection criteria: Applicants will be considered based on the quality of research proposed, capability of the fellow to carry it out, adequacy of facilities, and overall value contributed to the field of nutrition by the interaction of the disciplines represented.

Frequency: Annually
Usual application period: September 1 through December 1 of year prior to award
Duration of support: Up to two years
