Childhood Obesity

Obesity is a condition caused by an excessive amount of body adipose tissue. Both genetic and environmental factors, such as social and economic context, physical activity, food education and eating habits, are involved in body adiposity status and consequently in children overweight problem. The term “Childhood Obesity” may refer to both children and adolescents.
Obesity is related with other diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension and also psychological troubles that often continue into adulthood. To avoid that the obesity epidemic spreads out, it is crucial to implement new prevention programs, to get a better understanding of treatment and to allow families to have access to good and healthy food.

It is why Danone Institutes have chosen, in order to spread information on this subject, to promote several children and parents educational programs, to participate and organize different scientific meetings and to support research programs on child food preferences and ways to change them.
