
What is the Danone Institute?
Danone Institutes are nonprofit entities dedicated to non-commercial activities.
Completely independent from the Danone Group, they were established to benefit public health by advancing knowledge on diet and nutrition through research, information and education.
Currently, there are Danone Institutes in 14 countries. All share the same mission. Members are independent local scientists and medical professionals.
Why did The Danone Group establish the Danone Institute?
From its beginnings in 1919, Danone yogurt was conceived for medicinal purposes.
Over the years, health has remained Danone's core commitment. The creation of the worldwide network of Danone Institutes reflects this commitment. It enables the brand to play a significant civic role through concrete actions going far beyond yogurt production
How can the Danone Institute help me?
Danone Institutes have different programs to help scientists and diet and nutrition professionals.
For scientists:
• they support research projects through grants, awards, fellowships, and scholarships;
• they also promote the publication/communication of research findings and scientific exchanges through the organization of scientific meetings such as symposia, workshops, and round tables;
• they inform scientists of major developments in specific areas of nutrition and diet through their Internet sites.
For health professionals:
• they publish books, newsletters, leaflets and CD-ROMs on diet and nutrition;
• they set up continuing medical educational programs.
For educational professionals and the general public:
• they produce educational kits, booklets, radio and TV programs.
How can I get financial support from Danone Institutes?
Financial supports for research projects are provided through open calls for applications to local programs. Once you have identified such a program, you can apply for it as long as you meet all the relevant criteria. Applications are reviewed and selections are made by a jury of Scientific Council members.
Are Danone Institute publications free?
Yes. All Danone Institutes are non-profit organizations therefore our publications are free. However, you may be asked to pay shipping and handling costs.

The initiatives of Danone Institutes worldwide are communicated through different channels.

Who are the members of Danone Institutes?
Danone Institute members are independent scientists chosen for their expertise in diet and nutrition. They are representative of the local scientific community in term of institutions, disciplines, and scientific thinking.
How do scientists become Danone Institute members?
According to the priorities of the local Danone Institute, the Scientific Council and the Board identify the most relevant and competent scientists in their country. New members are then elected during the annual General Meeting.
Who decides on the priorities of Danone Institutes?
Priorities are defined by the Board and the Scientific Council of each local Danone Institute.
On the Board,
• experts in nutritional science establish program focus, allocate funds and closely monitor all programs
• Danone Managers offer communication support, as well as program development and management expertise.
The members of the Scientific Council serve in an advisory capacity to the Board. Taking into account the major local public health issues, they identify scientific priorities. They also serve on program selection committees.
Do Danone Institutes only support nutrition research, information, and education related to yogurt and dairy products?
No. Danone Institutes are dedicated to promoting research, education and communication about the link between nutrition and good health. We understand that dairy products are just one element of a healthy, well-balanced diet.
Are Danone Institutes the R&D departments of the Danone Group?
No. The Danone Group has its own research center in France (Danone Vitapole) which is a completely independent from the Institute.
Danone Institutes are non-profit organizations with no commercial ties to the Danone Group. They do not conduct research on any Danone products. Their support of research projects only concerns human nutrition, diet and health.
