The 2001 Award Ceremony
The 2001 Danone International Prize for Nutrition was awarded to Professor Alfred Sommer on August 30th, 2001 during an official award-giving ceremony attended by close to 400 participants . The historic Palais Ferstel located in the old center of Vienna provided a beautiful setting for this ceremony.

Professor Barbara Schneeman, Chairperson of the 2001 Danone International Prize for Nutrition

Dr. Barbara Schneeman, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of the 2001 Prize, explained the Prize selection procedure, formally introduced the laureate and underlined the impact of his team's work on vitamin A deficiency and the beneficial effects of vitamin A supplementation on reducing blindness and improving the lives of millions of children.
