The 1999 Award Ceremony

Manuel Serrano Rios congratulates Prof. Leif Hallberg
The name of Prof. Leif Hallberg, awardee of the 1999 Danone International Prize for Nutrition, was  revealed at the 8th  European Nutrition Conference held in Lillehammer (Norway) between June 16th – 19th , 1999. During the award ceremony, Prof. Leif Hallberg, who was introduced by Prof. Manuel Serrano Rios, Chairman of the 1999 Prize Organizing Committee, gave a 1 hour lecture summarizing his research work. The lecture was also broadcast live on the Prize web site.

Prof. Hallberg's speech, entitled "The Paradox of Iron Deficiency" gave us an overview of his scientific work, which has been devoted to clarifying the causes of iron deficiency and to finding ways for its prevention and treatment.
